Habitat for Humanity is an international nonprofit agency based on Christian principles that strives to eliminate poverty housing.
They have constructed over 400 homes in the greater Phoenix area - building entire subdivisions as well as infill housing in existing communities.
Homes are built based on a partnership between a family and the community. Habitat homes are built with volunteer labor and funded by local donors.
A qualifying family pays for their home through "sweat equity hours" and a zero-interest mortgage loan. Volunteers work alongside the family throughout most phases of the home's construction. A Habitat homeowner must fall between 30% and 60% of the median income, have a need for housing, good credit and stable income.
