Garden expert and owner of Harper’s Nursery & Landscaping Company, Jay Harper is here to take your questions!
Callers:
Recommendation – We’d bring in one of the limes to a nursery to get a better idea of what’s going on. She does NOT need 2 trees to pollinate. Lime trees are self pollinator’s. We’d replace the tree since she has another one next to it doing really well.
Recommendation – He could cut off the dead branches and try to save the one trunk that is still producing leaves. It will probably grow another branch, but it will take a long time. It’s a judgement call on what he wants to do based on how it looks in his yard. We also answer his question on over-seeding and Jay talks through steps he should take.
Callers:
Recommendation – We like bougainvilla, tangerine beauty crossvine, cat claw and a few others that should work.
Recommendation – We don’t think he needs to be concerned about this at all. If he’s seriously concerned he could line the interior with plastic (not on the bottom).
Recommendation – Lemons are easy. They color up to the right yellow & should be doing that right now. If the limes are turning yellow, it’s past their prime.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation – Start small and think big! 4′ x 4′ is great for a start. You can expand those if you want more plants, etc.
*We discuss more about this and tips for a successful planting season. Linings, protection and soil advice.
Caller:
Recommendation – It might! It could take a while and he won’t know until spring, but Jay would give it a try.
Callers:
Recommendation – The more you leave alone, the faster it will recover. Jay would leave it alone.
Recommendation – Not really. This is just part of the issues with that tree.
*We talk about the sissou tree and the issues it can induce.
Recommendation – We’d leave it alone! She could determine if the branches are alive when it loses it’s leaves or starts sprouting new growth in the spring.
*Watering tips for container gardens.

We welcome Oldcastle Superlite representative, Steve LeClaire to talk about the days events!
Continuing our coversation on masonry building:
Letter From a Listener:
Recommendation – We walk through his options and think he might need to talk to an appraiser to determine the value he’s adding to his home.
We sit down with Cole Eaton of Sun Valley Solar to talk about their industry and whether solar could be great for your home and budget!
Here’s the 2 sample bills we mentioned:
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation – Cole breaks it down.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation – Generally, at 10-15 years old you should get it checked out. It’s something they do on every site visit.
Callers:
Recommendation – He’s talking about the electrical panel upgrade to accomodate the new solar systems. It might be required with an upgrade.
Recommendation – How much roof space is available? What’s the expected usage and what is the budget? That helps determine the size.
Recommendation – Cole talks through why this is a good thing and why it can be an issue.
Caller:
Recommendation – We won’t give voting recommendations, so Cole breaks down what it is and who determines all this. She’ll have to do her own research.
