HOW SHOULD I PROTECT MY OUTDOOR WOOD SURFACES?

If your Viga’s, front door, or any natural wood surface is being directly exposed to sunlight, they need to be protected. If you already have some damage that exists, and would like the coloring to be more consistent, you will need to sand the wood down. Sanding will lighten from the original color, but it will give a more complimentary and even look. Once you have sanded them down, you will need to treat the wood. Stay away from anything that is a “sealer” or any material that will result in a film on the exposed wood. Use instead a linseed oil or penetrating water repellant for wood surfaces. When natural wood is in full UV exposure, you can expect to retreat it at least one time per year.
