With the extreme heat over the weekend, Jay talks about adjusting your irrigation system.
Jay recommends using the “Watering by the Numbers Guide” available by Water Use It Wisely.
Check your sprayers and make sure the water is speading correctly so your not wasting water.

Jay’s tip on what he would do today if he had to be out in the yard in this heat. Check your irrigation! Watch for wilting plants in the yard.

Julie – She has a ton of indoor gnats and wants to know how to get rid of them?

Recommendation – They’re called nuisance gnats for a reason! The plants could be staying too wet, so let them dry a bit and apply a bit of D.E.

What to do when you encounter a swarm of bees.

1st-Run! Get out of the area.
Avoid wearing dark clothing. They’re attracted to dark hair too.
Don’t stand in one place once you’ve disturbed the hive.
Don’t swing at bees. It will do no good.
Bees are attracted to our breath, so cover your face.

Discussions on what to do if you encounter a bear.

They always recommend picking up bear spray.
Never get out of the tent.
Lay down & play dead. Layon your belly, clasp your hands over your neck and face, plus spread your legs so he can’t roll you over.
If you do get rolled over, go into the fetal position.
How humans and animals react to fear.

What to do if you encounter Javelina:

Attacks are rare, but almost always have to do with dogs or humans feeding them.
The use of ammonia & yelling to deter javelina.

Recommendation – He can, but it will take a ton of time and adds a serious maintenance issue in the future. We’d recommend adding shade trees instead.

P.J. – His 18 year old home has several tiles that are loose. He has 3 bids and 3 different methods to make them stick in place. If there is debris under the tiles, will it stick and have we ever heard of this method of using the grout lines to glue them down?

Recommendation – With no cracks, it’s probably not a foundation issue, it was just installed poorly. He might want to verify that there is no moisture and eliminate that 1st before doing any work on re-gluing the tiles down.

She is adding onto her home and she’s working with an architect and builder to get a final number, plus another wanting to add a mother-in-law suite. This is a very common project and we discuss what goes into it and the cause of all these types of additions.
