Recommendation – It sounds like she could water less frequently and deeper. John describes the watering schedule and how overwatering can lead to yellowing. There’s a small chance it has a disease called xylella fastidiosa. If it is the disease, they’ll need to be taken out, unfortunately as their is no known cure.
*We talk about alternatives to replace the oleander bushes. Plus, we tackle the 2nd part of Dee’s question about spider mites.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation – It’s a great time for pruning. The Texas Ranger is pretty tough and can be cut back quite a bit, just not down to the ground like an oleander. Bird of Paradise can be cut back significantly, but not down to the ground either.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation – They are pretty small and tricky to prune. Be selective on reduction cuts on the outside. Don’t use a hedge trimmer. Go with a hand pruner. They are susceptible to sunburn, so be careful.
*John talks about over-pruning that causes sunburn.

Recommendation – We answer in the next segment.
Answering Rick’s Question from the last segment. We ask a few more questions to make sure we understand his situation.
Recommendation – It is not too late for tax credits. He’ll need to talk with a tax advisor and should be eligible for state and national tax credits. 10 percent reduction is not enough and he should be demanding a site visit from the installer.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation – Depends on the roofing. If it’s simply a metal roof, then it is not a good candidate for solar. House orientation is key too. East/West facing homes are not great candidates, usually.
Caller:
Recommendation – You should see a savings right away, so something is clearly wrong with these situations.
*The crew discusses what to expect for the average home & payback expectations.
Caller:
