Cindy Thrasher, President of the Wickenburg Historical Preservation Society and designated Wickenburg historian.

Cindy discusses the ‘character’ known as Henry Wickenburg.  His journey from trouble in his native Prussia to establishing a mine in the area of Wickenburg.

Discussion of the restoration of Vulture City Mine and the big production in dollars that came from the mine.

Segment 2

Historian Vivia Stang shares more history and stories about Henry Wickenburg.  She believes inspiration from the past is great learning for today.

Henry lived a life of adversity but pushed forward in opportunities making a living.  Including his eventual trip to Arizona at the time of The Civil War.

More with Vivia Stang and the life of Henry Wickenburg.  His associations with parties persuing mining for gold.  His solo journey from Ehrenberg to what became Wickenberg and discovery of The Vulture Mine.  The tough process of extracting gold from ore.

Interview with Jessica Bland, Director of The Hassayampa River Preserve.  River flows underground except for the five miles of surface water that makes up the preserve.

History of the preserve dating back to Native Americans living in the area to a homestead establishment by Frederick Brill in the 1860s and dude ranches.

A haven for hundreds of species of birds and birdwatchers alike.

The preserve offers ‘Night Walks’ and other family events.  And the updates of the preserve when Maricopa County Parks took it over.  Discussion of more features at the preserve.

Architect/Preservationist expert Don Ryden talks about true ranch houses.

The origins of the ranch house,  Designed with materials made by hand, built for the enviroment for shade, collecting rain, keeping warm or cool during the year.

Details how the ranch house become ‘ranch style’.  How the different styles were influenced and developed.

What what it that made the garage door the single more architectural feature in the front of the house.

Ranch houses had carriage/garages in the back of the house.  Where most of the living happened.

Segment 3

There are 17 different styles of ranch houses in Arizona.  Don and Rosie point out examples of Arizona houses that are & are not ranch style.

Discussion of some enhancements to bring a home to a ranch style look.  The loss of the integrity of  the streetscape.

Don explains the features that makes a home RANCH style.
