Larry from Red Rock, AZ – Water Pressure Regulator: Recently went through a community-wide water valve replacement. Had no issues until water valve was replaced. Now, anytime I have more than two taps open – running the sink and flushing a toilet for example – the sink will lose significant pressure. Hear the question at the 4:36 mark for this segment. Landscaping is something DIYers tackle all the time, especially since it’s a beautiful time of year to be outside.
Drip irrigation: There are a few different ways to go about installing drip irrigation. You could do it yourself, but you run the risk of making a mess of your yard – nobody wants spaghetti lines! The type of irrigation you’ll need also depends on weather or not you have pets or animals that get into your yard. Aaron from Rosie Certified Core Landscape has the answers.
TIP: If you’ve got the trench open to run PVC lines for water, also add some low voltage lines for lights, possibly a line for a future gas fireplace, etc. Even if you may not need those extra items now, you’ll be patting yourself on the back later when you do, especially since you won’t have to dig up your yard again!
Irrigation Planning: Chris Welborn of Rosie Certified Vicente Landscaping: There is a lot of planning that goes into an irrigation system. Homeowners typically install them incorrectly because they are not aware of how to calculate the water needed, which lines/emitters are necessary to achieve the desired outcome, and how to get the proper amount of water to each plant.
Retaining Walls: Rosie’s personal experience – retaining walls are much easier to get right as a DIY project than pavers. If you want to build a retaining wall 18-24 inches tall, no permit is needed. It is a much friendlier DIY project as long as you can read a level and operate a shovel, you’re good to go!

Pavers: Pavers take quite a bit of work – it is possible to do it yourself, as long as you don’t mind the back breaking, kneeling down type work required. It’s not just laying pavers on top of level dirt; the interlocking paver industry has a certification for landscapers to make sure they are doing it correctly.
