COMMENTARY

• Part of permaculture is ‘stacking functions’.  A single asset that provides many functions
• Chickens produce eggs, eat weeds and bugs, create fertilizer, composting plus provide a source of income
• Chickens take care of themselves.  Roam during the day, put themselves to bed in the coop at night

Roosters And Goats

COMMENTARY

• Rooster myth busting!
  • They crow anytime day and night
  • No need for them to produce eggs
• Predator proof your coop.  Suggest welded hardware cloth
• Consider goats.  Provided you have the space
  • Goats milk good for making cheese, fudge, soap, and just for drinking
  • Must be milked on a regular basis
  • Goats are heard animals.  Need companions

Zoning Regulations For Livestock

COMMENTARY

• Check with city neighborhood services department or HOA whether you can keep livestock in your backyard.
• Rural properties check with Codes, Covenants & Restrictions
• Quail to consider are gamble, coturnix or Japanese quail
• Ducks, turkeys and guinea hens for eggs and meat
