Legacy And Champion Trees

• David joins the conversation to praise the Texas Ebony.  He planted them and loves the blooms in summer.  Also planted hackberry trees in Winslow.  The nursery told him it was a legacy tree.
• A legacy tree is defined as being around and still alive for 100 years
• Trees tend to retrench as they age to preserve resources to survive

COMMENTARY:

• Best pruning for deciduous and thin bark trees late December, January, February
• Mature tree pruning rule of thumb is no more that a quarter of the crown
• 3 Cut Method for branches:  Half bottom cut, top cut, branch collar stub leaving a few inches

Planting Your Own Christmas Tree

COMMENTARY:

• Table top tree like Italian Stone Pines
• Suggest Eldarica/Afghan Pine for a Christmas Tree.  January the best time to plant.  Needs space to grow
• Pine trees need good watering during the winter.
• Planting a young tree, its sleep for a year, creeps for a year and LEAPS for years
