Drought is a serious challenge for Arizona’s water supply. With the possibility of Tier 1 water restrictions, The Central Arizona Project discusses how they have planned for it.

CAP’s Chuck Collum is the Colorado River Programs Manager. Discusses how proper management and preparation for drought has been ongoing for years.

The historical 1968 US Supreme Court win that led to the building of the CAP.

Explains why CAP hasn’t utilized its full allotment of Colorado River water because of good management and conservation since 2014.

The Drought Mitigation Plan designed to respond to shortages avoiding Government intervention.

Chuck discusses the 3 strategies to build a more reliable Colorado River water supply: Inner state collaboration with partners and The Arizona Department Of Water Resources, collaboration with other Western States using the Colorado River and an agreement with Mexico.

Two new reduced water technologies being tested for agriculture: The Alfalfa Project and Ndrip developed in Isreal. A micro drip system using gravity, not electricity to move water without flooding rows.

Don Crandall is the Water Control Manager of Lake Pleasant & CAP Operations.

Don talks about a typical day managing water thru the CAP canal and distribution to customers. Starting at the Mark Wilmer Pumping Station on the Colorado River.

Don explains managing electrical usage to power the many pumps on the system.

Lake Pleasant is ‘the holding tank’ for the CAP. From the Colorado River to the lake, water is pumped in and generates electricity when moved out of the lake.

Don discusses how water from the canal gets distributed its users. They are a wholesale provider filling water orders for many customers under their contracted allotment.

How the CAP manages the delivery process from its headquarters across the 336 mile system. Thanks to a fantastic asset management program, its one of the most efficient systems in the country.

Air conditioners are more efficient when its running longer. Not starting and stopping which uses more energy. Letting it run longer achieves proper SEER rating, eliminates hot and cold spot, completely dehumidify the home and better indoor air quality.

Why its better for an A/C unit be slightly undersized.

How swamp coolers have given way to more efficient air conditioning systems.

Rosie’s recommendation when you’re going to install a new air conditioning unit if a contractor is not doing their due diligence.

A visit to The National Memorial Cemetery Of Arizona for Memorial Day Weekend.

CALLER: Has a 1948 red brick Hallcraft home 1200 square feet with a swamp cooler and vented attic. Added an additional 1200 square foot section and two new comfort units. New addition is sealed with foam ceiling. Remodeling the original part of the house removing the swamp cooler and ducts replacing with flex duct and new registers. Concerned about issues with the efficiency of the two units.

CALLER: Thanks Rosie for helping him save money by the results of a home energy audit replacing with a smaller ton unit at his home. Has a drywell for the pool used to drain for backwashing. Noticed some of the underside of the pool decking is crumbling into the drywell.
