Jim – Has a peach tree and something is eating all the fruit. He has the plant completely covered and can’t figure out what it is.

Bill talks about planting in the summer…..don’t let the heat scare you! You can plant in the summer. Just remember the irrigation.

More tips from Bill about lighting up the yard.

Before you set your lighting up permanently, just run the low voltage lighting over the ground and leave it for a few days to make sure you’re happy with the setup.
Decide the “effect” you want to get with your lighting. Choose the lamp first, not the fixture. The lamp does all the work. The fixture just holds the lamp, so pick the lamp first.

We discuss “Task Lighting,” like a barbecue light or a pool light, so you can work at night.

Caller:

Gary – Planted bougainvillea, but they’ve died in his front yard after trying several things. What did he do wrong?

Recommendation – Bougainvillea is fairly hard to kill but the root ball is very sensitive before the plant is established. Call Elgin Nursery.

Callers:

Mary – Just moved to Scottsdale from the NC coast. In NC she was required to have a termite contract. Is it the same here?

Recommendation – Yes! Call Action Termite, Blue Sky Pest Control or email Master Tech Pest Solutions.

Beth – Her lemon tree leaves are turning yellow.

Recommendation – Make sure you’re not over-watering and check the drainage. Call an arborist.

We return to last week’s topic as Rosie tries to give an “simple” explanation on how Air Conditioning works.

Callers:

Phillis – She has a roof-mounted air conditioning unit that normally drains water, but isn’t doing it this year and she’s concerned.

Recommendation – It’s probably fine due to our low humidity and it should start draining when the monsoon season starts.

Rhonda – Just bought a home and has recently having odor issues in parts of their home.

Rosie and Stan talk about the Green Egg Smoker and Grill.

We continue our Investigation with Rhonda about her home’s odor issues…..

Recommendation – She probably needs to extend her sewer vent. It’s a common problem and extending the sewer vent can get rid of the smell.

Rosie and Stan discuss their “Stinkology” expertise! Odor problems can be embarrassing and eliminating them is important. They discuss a few tricks to their investigating prowess.

Callers:

Chris has a Green Egg and loves it!!! He uses it as a smoker, grill and his kids love to make pizza in it. Yum!

Doug – Some of his asphalt shingles are ripping off. Can he use a Henry’s sealer to cover the whole roof since he has no leaks?

Caller:

Kevin – He has a tile roof that is starting to sag and was wondering if the marine grade plywood would help?

Recommendation – It would work, but is probably overdoing it and just upgrade to a little thicker plywood. It’s probably pretty expensive.

Diane – where does she get lightning protection?

Recommendation – For surge protection, call Austin Electric Services in Maricopa County. In Tucson, call the Solar Store. For lightning protection, call Lightning Busters.

Larry – If your shutting down your house for the summer, why can’t you shut down your water to the whole house instead of turning them off at each faucet and toilet.

Mike wanted to know what meat tenderizing Rosie recommends for stings.

Recommendation – Adolph’s Meat Tenderizer.

Dennis – Has a place up North in Prescott and has an odor issue and wants to know if he can do a “smoke test” himself?

Recommendation – A “Smoke Test” is done professionally. Rosie is stumped and is going to investigate personally.

Lyle – Has an odor issue around his sump pump. It looks like someone replaced the pump and didn’t seal it back up. Is there a chance that this is the source?

Recommendation – Might be a perfect candidate for a “smoke test.” Call Woods Plumbing!

Callers:

Ken – He’s rebuilding a pool and wants to switch the light out the light to L.E.D. How does he know which light to use to match the output. He also wants a suggestion on paint for the pool.

Recommendation – Call PPG about the paint and Rosie’s friend about the lighting.

Maria – Her roof needs re-coating. Should she call a handyman or an actual roofer?

Recommendation – Call Lyons Roofing !
