The biggest mistake homeowners make when it comes to painting their homes is putting it off for too long. Paint your house every five years.
Yes, it’s a huge, expensive job, but if you wait seven or eight or 10 years between paintings, the Arizona sun and our harsh summer monsoon rains will eat your wood and stucco alive. Most painters keep a handyman busy just replacing bad wood before the painters can start.
Painting every five years is cheaper and less trouble than having to replace and repair weather-damaged wood and stucco that a fresh coat of paint might have saved.
A tip: If painting the whole house seems daunting, do just one side at a time. But don’t paint only the front of the house and never the back or sides just because you can’t see them from the street.
