DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY AIR CONDITIONER’S SUPPLY REGISTERS?

If you do, you can help your air conditioning system run more efficiently.

Remove the supply registers (the wall or ceiling grates that allow air to blow into the house) and locate the sheet-metal that each register connects to. That sheet metal connection (called a “boot” or a “can”) sits inside of the drywall. Using a caulk gun, seal the space between the sheet-metal connection and the drywall. Sealing that gap will reduce the amount of dust that blows into your house.

As long as you’ve got the registers off, clean them with soap and water before replacing them.
