Carpet is one of the most popular flooring materials in Arizona and the rest of the country. Chances are, you’ve got some in your humble abode. Like any part of your home, proper maintenance can expand the life and beauty of the product. Carpet is no exception.

It is recommended to have your carpets cleaned every six months and to vacuum several times a week to keep dust, dirt and oils from settling into your carpet. Let’s be honest, most of us don’t vacuum until company’s coming over, and we certainly don’t take the time to have the carpet cleaned until it’s looking ghastly. But doing this only shortens the lifespan of the carpet. Letting dirt particles sit in the carpet is like rubbing sandpaper on the fibers, causing premature aging. Be willing to maintain your carpet by vacuuming, cleaning, and using the proper procedure to treat stains and spills.
An indoor air quality issue that may surprise you is that your vacuum cleaner is probably the single most polluting piece of equipment in your home! It’s ironic that the more you vacuum, the dirtier your indoor air probably is, especially when you know many carpet manufacturers recommend daily vacuuming! The best solution for this source of indoor air pollution is to invest in a well sealed HEPA filter vacuum. HEPA is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Air; in other words, it is a really good filter. When shopping for a HEPA filter vacuum, remember that the HEPA filter is no good if its dust holding canister is not sealed well! However, not all vacuums with the HEPA stamp are created equal. Don’t be surprised if you’re spending hundreds of dollars on a vacuum!
