Full-sized appliances take up a lot of room. Consider replacing yours with smaller versions.
You can find narrow refrigerators or units that are just a couple of inches shorter than full-sized models. Some manufacturers also make refrigerator-only units that you could buy if you don’t use your freezer much or have another place for a separate freezer.
If you live alone or your family is small, take a look at the new dish “drawers.” They’re less than half the size of a dishwasher. The draw slides in and out under your kitchen countertop. You’ll fill it in half the time because it’s just one level, so you don’t wind up running a half-full dishwasher.
Get rid of your oven. The new microwave/convention oven combos work nearly as well and they’re way smaller. You can mount it on the wall or place it on the countertop.
If your kitchen has an island, consider tearing it out and replacing it with a dining table that can do double-duty as a food prep area. Buy one with a shelf on the bottom where you can store a few kitchen implements.
Unless your cabinets are fairly new, look into replacing the shelves with pull-out versions. Add lazy Susans to organize cabinet space that you might not be using because it’s hard to reach..
Install a sturdy grid on the ceiling over the table where you can hang utensils and pots and pans. That will free up a lot of cabinet space.
If your full-sized washer and dryer are too big for the laundry room, buy a stackable unit. You can get state-of-the-art, front-loading stackable combos that look and work as well as bigger models.
