WHAT IS AN ORANGE OR CITRUS DOG WORM?

Segment from Radio Archive December 1, 2012 (4:23 into segment)

  • Cathy, has a mysterious bug on her potted dwarf Lemon Tree.  What is it and what does she do about it?

Answer: An Orange or Citrus Dog Worm (Caterpillar).  When disturbed, an orange horn protrudes from its head and it emits a bad odor.  This caterpillar transforms into a beautiful Swallowtail Butterfly.  If you find the Orange Dog Worm on your Citrus, make sure to keep an eye on your tree.  If you find damage occurring, pick off the worms.
