Do you have costly home air conditioning bills in summer as well as hot spots in your home – rooms that seem hotter than the others? The problem could be leaky air ducts rather than defects in your air conditioner. It’s been estimated that air duct problems can cost you $200 or more per year on your power bills in Arizona.
If you are an SRP customer, your utility will give you a rebate of up to $250 (as of Jan. 2019) for qualified testing and repairs done by a participating contractor. Houses and repairs will vary, so the cost to you may differ as well, but generally testing runs from $100 to $450 and repairs normally cost $300 to $1,500.
What kinds of repairs will be done? Among the possibilities: fixing disconnected or restricted ductwork; sealing the connections among various components in your duct system; insulating any exposed ductwork; and many other improvements. Readings will be taken both before and after any duct repairs.
Of course, you must be a permanent SRP residential electric customer with a central AC system or heat pump. Tests and repairs must be completed by April 30, 2019, in order to be eligible for this rebate.
