HOW DO YOU RECOMMEND I CORRECT A SAGGING DOOR?

  1. Stand on the hinge side of the door and close it.
  2. Sagging doors will hit the jamb near the top of the strike jamb, very often they have to be lifted just to get the door closed. The problem is the top hinge.
  3. Look closely to determine whether the top hinge is pulling away from the door or from the jamb.
  4. If it is pulling away from the door, remove the screws and glue some plugs into stripped out screw holes. Allow them to dry overnight, then pre-drill and reset screws.
  5. If it is pulling away from the jamb, remove the screws and go to a hardware store to purchase a 2-1/2″ screw in a finish to match your hinge. Pre-drill the existing screw holes to a depth of 2″ and install 2-1/2″ screws. This will transport the weight of door from jamb to the structural skeleton of the house. Be careful not to over tighten, as this will cause another misalignment problem.
