You might be surprised to learn that faux finishers often are artists and not house painters.
Look in the yellow pages for “fauxfinishers,” and you’ll find entries for artists, decorators and faux-finishing specialists. Some professional painters also offer the service.
Here’s what to do before you hire somebody to take on your complicated faux-finishing job:
- Ask the finisher to show you “sample boards”, sections of plaster board that the finisher has finished in various patterns to show you what he or she is able to do. Sample boards are the finisher’s portfolio. Don’t hire a finisher who does not have any sample boards to show you.
- If you don’t see the pattern you want on the sample boards, try to find a picture of it in a home decorating magazine. Ask the finisher to replicate the look on a sample board and bring it back to you.
