Building codes say R-30 is the minimum effective R-value for an Arizona attic. Most roofers and energy experts say R-38 is the most effective.

Still, you’ll see sales pitches for a combination of insulation and radiant barriers or other products that will achieve R-60 in the attic. Save your money.
 
Attic insulation actually reaches a point of diminishing returns when you install more than you need. Stick with R-38. It’s all you need.
