NO!
Every time the thermostat breaks triple digit numbers, we are flooded with questions on how to reduce heat gain in order to lower utility bills.
In this process, homeowners will eventually make their way around to the attic and get the idea to cool down the attic thinking “if the attic is cooler, the house will be cooler so my AC runs less and my bills will go down.” Makes perfect sense, right?
The problem with this, is if the attic is properly insulated to an R-38 and properly ventilated, there is nothing more economical you can then do for your attic than to leave it alone.
The only thing an attic fan will do, be it solar or electric powered, is create a negative pressure in the attic causing the air conditioned air inside your home to be drawn up into the attic. So in reality what you will be doing is increasing your demand for air conditioning.
