There’s really only one drawback to home automation: the cost.
You’ll pay around $2,000 or so for the most basic home automation system, one that synchronizes six to eight lights so you can turn them on or off, or dim them, from a single console in a different room.
But you can pay $100,000-plus for a state-of-the-art system that involves lights, furnace, air conditioning system, security alarm, door locks, entertainment equipment and any other electronic device in your home that you want to control from another room (or even from another state).
