WILL MY TREE SURVIVE AFTER PART OF THE BARK WAS STRIPPED?

I put baby goats in a pen that is around this five year old ash tree. I noticed this morning they had stripped part of the bark off, near the base of the trunk. Will my tree survive and is there anything I should do to help it recover?

Romey | Wittmann, Az.

ANSWERS FROM THE INDUSTRY

The damage is permanent. If the bark is removed from less than 360 degrees around circumference of the trunk, the tree has a chance. Wrap the trunk with rabbit fencing or chicken wire.
