I am considering replacing most of the landscaping gravel in our yard with wood chips. However, I am concerned that they may attract cockroaches and scorpions. Is it true that wood chips attract cockroaches and scorpions? Also, should I avoid wood chips next to the foundation of the house? I worry this may be a conduit for termites. Thank you for taking the time to review my question.

Eric! Thank you for your question! All of our landscape experts advocate for wood chips as they are a great holder of water. You don’t need to worry about scorpions, as they are looking for wood piles over woodchips. If you are concerned about termites, or have had experience with them, you could keep your rock as a barrier for about 12-15″ between your foundation and your woodchips! Call the show between 8-9am on Saturday mornings for more gardening / landscape questions! 1-888-767-4348
